This March and April, the third annual
"Windstream" spring music festival will be held, which is being
organized by the professional symphonic orchestra "Riga".
In 2012, the orchestra celebrates its 40th anniversary, thus there will also be
special jubilee concerts in August and September as well.
On March 20, the opening concert of the festival called "Spring in the
city" will be held at the Small Guild Hall. There will be three other
festival concerts in March – on March 25 at the Riga Dome Church, on April 6 at
the St.John’s Church in Riga, and on April 9 at the St.Peter’s Church in Riga.
A special festival day will take place on April 1, when an interactive event
for families with children called "Draw a joke!" with local painter
Janis Anmanis will be held. Later that evening, a "Joke Concert" will
be held at the Great Guild Hall.
On the other hand, the orchestra itself will close its winter concert season on
May 24 with a concert at the Great Guild Hall. Performing at the concert will
also be the orchestra’s artistic director - conductor Martins Ozolins, as well
as the popular Latvian cello trio "Melo-M".
