About Cherry Creek High School Meistersingers

The Meistersingers have appeared at various state, regional and national conventions for ACDA and MENC and are currently under the direction of Sarah Harrison. Most recently they appeared at the 2003 National ACDA Convention in New York City and the 2010 Colorado Music Educators State Conference. They have appeared with the Denver Brass, Confluence Quartet, Kantorei (Richard Larson, conductor), and the Colorado Symphony with guest, Marvin Hamlisch. Over the past 40 years, they have hosted some of the finest professional and collegiate choral conductors at their annual May Concerts. In recent years, they have hosted Simon Carrington (King’s Singers and Yale University), Anton Armstrong (St. Olaf College), Dennis Keene (Voices of Ascension in NYC), Andre Thomas (Florida State), and Z. Randall Stroope (Rowan University). They have commissioned works from Rene Clausen, Z. Randall Stroope, Lawrence Kaptein, Joan Catoni Conlon, and Timothy Takach. While on various tours throughout the United States, Europe and Asia, they have participated in joint concerts or clinics with Eric Whitacre (composer), Cantus (professional men’s chorus), Jeffrey Boers (University of Washington), Mike Mendoza (The College of New Jersey), Ron-Dirk Entleutner (Amici Musicae in Leipzig Germany), David Flood (Canterbury Cathedral), Donald Nally (Welsh National Opera Chorus), Father Jesus (El Escorial, Spain), and Joshua Jacobson (Northeastern University in Boston). Previous directors of the Meistersingers include Bill Erickson and Richard Larson.

Sarah Harrison is in her fifth year at Cherry Creek High School, Denver, CO, and directs Meistersingers, A Cappella (10-12th mixed choir), and Choralaires (9th grade women’s choir) and teaches AP Music Theory and Piano Lab. Her choirs appeared at the Colorado Music Educators Association Convention three times. Prior to Cherry Creek, Ms. Harrison opened and spent five years at Silver Creek Middle/Senior High School in Longmont, CO. In addition to school sings with Kantorei, a semi-professional choir, and is a string bassist of all music genres. Ms. Harrison has been a guest conductor in Colorado, Nebraska, and Idaho. She also served as Choir Director and Organist at Westview Presbyterian Church in Longmont. She taught orchestra in Minnesota, before moving to Colorado. Ms. Harrison obtained her Bachelor of Music Education degree, with instrumental and vocal certification, from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and her Master of Music in conducting and music education from Colorado State University.
