Pirita Convent has stood on the shore of Tallinn
Bay for more than 500 years, and is one of Northern Europe’s
true gothic pearls. Its imposing ruins are the result of wars and fire damage
dating back to the 16th century. They were brought back to life in 2005: the
ruins now host one of the region’s most unique musical events – the annual Birgitta festival (13.08 - 23.08.2010). The idea at the
heart of the festival is to bring together the best of contemporary and
much-loved musical theatre: ballet and opera performances, oratorios and other
works.
